The interface board is a way to wire external I/O directly to your PC to work with Machines Simulator software if real-world I/O points are needed in your system.
It includes a Machines Simulator Suite USB license, Virtual Reality module and USB OPTO RLY88 Interface card.
USB OPTO RLY88
Specifications
The USB-OPTO-RLY88 provides eight optically isolated inputs and eight-volt free contact relay outputs with a current rating of up to 1Amp each.
- USB – Standard type B receptacle.
- Inputs – Absolute Max. 30v DC, Operational 4.5v to 27v DC.
- Outputs – Relay Contacts, see power graph below.
It is powered from any standard USB bus and has an exceptionally low maximum current consumption of approx. 90mA with all relays on. The relays are SPCO (Single Pole Change Over) types. The normally open, normally closed and common pins are all available on the screw terminals.
Relay Power Rating
If the contact load voltage and current of the relay are in the region enclosed by the solid and dotted lines in the figure below, the relay can perform a stable switching operation.
If the relay is used at a voltage or current exceeding this region, the life of the contacts may be significantly shortened.
Get the driver
Before connecting the board, you should download the driver and unzip it to a temporary folder. Then, connect the USB OPTO RLY88 module and navigate to the temporary folder and install the driver. Once installed, the device will appear as a COM port.
Which COM Port?
After installing the drivers and connecting the USB OPTO RLY88 module to an available USB port, you will need to determine which COM port it has been assigned to. This can vary depending on your system and how many COM ports are currently installed.
To find the assigned COM port, right-click on “My Computer” and select Properties -> Hardware -> Device Manager. Then scroll down and expand the “Ports (COM & LPT)” section.
The USB serial port should be listed. If you want to change the COM port number, right-click on it, choose Properties, select Advanced, and then choose a COM port number from the available list.
The default COM port settings are likely configured for 9600 baud, 8 data bits, no parity, and one stop bit. However, these settings can be ignored, as the device uses a full 12 Mbit/s USB connection directly to the processor.
Using USB OPTO RLY88 with Machines Simulator
You can connect your PLC directly to your PC using this card. Because the inputs are optoisolators with no common 0Vdc or +Vcc, you can customize your connection depending on whether your PLC uses Source or Sink output types. The same applies to the inputs (the relays are independently connected).
Machines Simulator can directly read the PLC outputs (sending the logic states to the virtual machine) and activate the PLC inputs (using the relays) to allow the PLC to read the virtual machine outputs. With this setup, you have a comprehensive simulation tool to test your PLC programs.
COMPATIBLE WITH ANY PLC!
